Agrigento is a city found in the south east of Sicily and is also the capital of the Agrigento Province. The city is located on a plateau looking out over the sea and sits between the Hypsas and Akragas rivers. The natural ridge to the north provides natural defences against both intruders and also weather. The ancient city of Akragas, upon which the modern city of Agrigento is built, was much larger than the modern city and so much of it is still hidden under the surrounding countryside. On the south side of the city, there have been extensive excavations and some Doric style Greek temples, which make up a World Heritage Site. If you tire of the city, you can rent a car from VIP Cars and take yourself off to the coast. There are several sandy beaches in the vicinity of Agrigento you can go and visit.
