The airport that serves Guaymas is a small facility with limited airlines and departures. The only airlines that operate out of it are regional ones that offer commuter service to larger cities for connections. Similarly the direct connections available are limited to nearby cities. Guaymas is situated in the northwest of Sonora State, and is the state’s capital. The city is surrounded by a larger municipal area. Guaymas proper is mostly an industrial port centre. Shrimp fishing operations are further economic boons for the city. Tourists mostly head to nearby San Carlos, a resort area with fine beaches. The main attraction to Guaymas is the annual carnival, a week of parades and festivities ending on Ash Wednesday. The parade is one of the most impressive in Mexico. To get from the airport to any of the nearby cities, hire a car from VIP Cars.
