Aliwal North is a town located on the Orange River in Eastern Cape of Central South Africa. The town is the seat of Maletswai local municipality. The name of the town was actually a tribute and commemoration made to Sir Henry Smith, who was Cape Colony’s governor. Juana Square Gardens is a park located at the center of north Aliwal. The settlement in this particular was transformed into a town because of the presence of a good source of water, fording and thermal springs across the town’s river, Orange River ad below Kraai River at its confluence. The sources of attraction in this town are the 2 hot mineral springs that also have a high concentration of gases and minerals. The Aliwal Spa, a thermal spa resort built around these springs is a great place to get some relaxation and rejuvenation.
