Due to these reasons, during early nineteenth century, the Kathu Forest was known as a State Forest and in 1995 it was declared as a Natural Heritage Forest. The town is also prone to mining. The Kumba Iron Ore is the most important mining zone in Kathu. Kathu also has lots of Golf courses in the north.
