UAE car rental requirements
To rent a car in UAE, you need to be at least 21 years of age to be eligible. Though the suppliers also allow drivers who are as young as 19, but for that they need to have at least one-year of driving experience. Suppliers charge a young driver surcharge from the drivers who fall in 19-25 age-bracket.
No matter whether you have a Canadian, US, UK or any other foreign driving license, you can rent car in UAE if your DL is valid; it also acts as the proof of your age. Temporary licenses, photocopies of your DL, or digital licenses are not accepted by the rental suppliers.
You need to have a valid credit card as suppliers ask for it as the means of payment at the time of the rental pickup. Though some companies allow payment in cash or debit cards, majority of them ask for a credit card. If you want to use someone else’s credit card, book the vehicle in the card holder’s name & get yourself added as the additional driver.
You should take along your IDP in case your driver’s license is not in English or any other Latin language; in case of accidents, it acts as a translation and allows the officer to fill the accident form that you will need to submit to the rental company for the refund of the deposit.
