Barbacena is a town in the Minas Gerais state in the south west of the country. It lies in the Serra da Mantiqueira foothills to the south of Belo Horizonte, the state capital. The town is well connected by road as it lies on the BR-040 highway, which links Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia.
