Belem Airport is also known as the Val de Cans-Julio Cezar Ribeiro International Airport. Val de Cans is the neighbourhood where the airport is located, which is to the north of the city of Belem. The airport picked up the second half of its name in 2010 when it was linked to Ribiero, a balloon enthusiast and inventor. There are a number of airlines operating out of Belem airport including Azul Brazilian Airlines and Surinam Airways. The airport operates both domestic and international flights. The airport is located 7 miles north of Belem with good road access into the city and also onto the 316 highway. Therefore it is a great location to hire a car in order to take you into the city, or onwards to other destinations in the area, such as Ananindeua or Benevides.
