Caxias do Sul is a city in the state of Rio Grande doSul in the south of the country. The city lies in the mountains of the Serra Gaúcha region. The city was founded in the late nineteenth century by Italian immigrants but the area had been occupied before this time by Indians and was generally called 'Indian’s Field’.
There are a large number of tourist attractions to be found within the city. These include a number of museums, churches and also many different types of leisure activities. There are some Brazilian culinary delights, including wine, cheese and grapes. You can also visit the 6th century Château Lacave, which is currently used as a winery.
If you hire a car through VIP cars you can travel along the Caminhos da Colônia, which is a beautiful tourist route taking in four settlements in the Serra Gaúcha region.
