Gela is a town located in the Caltanissetta Province on the south coast of Sicily. The town lies to the south of the provincial capital of Caltanissetta and sits on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. The town was founded in around 688 BC, not long after Syracuse was founded, on the Gela river estuary.
