Fidenza is a town in the province of Parma. When it was founded during the Roman Empire, the town was named Fidnetia. Originally, the town was a Roman camp on the site of an olderGallic town. In 41 BC the camp was made into a town and given its name. During the middle ages the town became known as Borgo San Donnino.
Wars have often destroyed parts of the city, only to be rebuilt by the citizens. Its history was often turbulent, being conquered first by Constantine, and then named a city by the Holy Roman EmperorBarbarossa. In 1927 the town renamed itself Fidenza, referring back to its original name.
