Lucca is an attractive Tuscan city near the Tyrrhenian Sea and on the river Sergia. Its originals date back to the Eustrscan and Ligurian settlement. The romans took over in 108BC, and the grid-like roads are remnants of the original Roman construction. Additionally, the Plaza San Miguel was the site of the Roman Forum.

The city’s most famous attraction is the in-tact wall, from the Renaissance period. This is usual as most of the wall were eventually torn down as cities expanded, and the need for defence lessened. Lucca, however, preserved its walls for pedestrian use after their military purposes was no longer needed. Lucca is a home to several academies and libraries; the Academy of Science, dating to 1594, is the most famous of its institutions. The basilica and towers and museums are other key things to do in Lucca.
