Kumamoto is the capital of Kumamoto Prefecture located on the Kyushu Island, Japan. The most notable landmark of the city is Kumamoto Castle, a big and in its day, tremendously well-fortified Japanese castle. The donjon is a concrete restorationdemonstrated in 1970s but many ancillary wooden buildings stayon the original castle. In the outer walls of Kumamoto Castle is the Hosokawa Gyobu-tei, the previousdwelling of the Higo daimyo. Miyamoto Musashi breathed the final part of his life in Kumamoto. Kumamoto is home to the Suizenji Municipal Stadium. The downtown area has a commercial district focused on 2 shopping arcades, the Kamitori and Shimotori, which go for many city blocks.
