Diamant, also known as Diamond Rock in English, is an uninhabited basalt island off the main part of Martinique. It is named after a diamond because of the glittering reflections it casts at certain times of the day. It is a volcanic plug, left behind from past volatile volcanic activity in the area over one million years ago.
It is believed to be home to some extremely rare species that were previous believed to have become extinct. Beneath the rock, there is an underwater cavern, which is very popular with divers. Coral and pretty marine life can be found in the cavern. The views of Diamant from the main island of Martinique can be ethereal. Rising from the clear waters, it stands like a lone beacon.
