Prior Velho is a parish located in the municipality of Loures, district of Lisbon, Portugal. Loures was a Roman settlement back at the starting of the 1st millennium. Loures was also a region renowned for the existence of numerous Castros. The parish of Loures was first cited in 1118 and again in 1191. By the 19th century between 1832 and 1834, cholera spread outthroughout the region and the people of Loures once again prayed'Our lady of Health’ to protect them from epidemic.
