Santa Cruz is a small town and municipality on the eastern part of the island of Madeira, an autonomous region of Portugal. This town is located about 18 km's from the island's capital of Funchal, and is known for its picturesque setting of sunny beaches surrounded by mountainous landscape. The Desertas Islands archipelago also fall under this municipality and have been designated as a nature reserve. The economy of Santa Cruz is based on the agriculture and fisheries industry, although tourism is gradually increasing here as well.
