Tomar is a city and municipality located in the Santarém district of the Centro region of Portugal. This town was one of the last to be commissioned by the Knights Templer after the conquest of this region during the Reconquista. This city was also an important center for Portuguese overseas expansion under Henry the Navigator and contains a number of historically important buildings and landmarks in it.

The Castle and Convent of Christ is the most important landmark here and has been added to the World Heritage Site List. It was built by the Knights Templer and was modeled after the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. Other prominent attractions here include the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Church of Santa Maria do Oliva, the Synagogue of Tomar, Igreja de São João Baptista, and the Castle of Almourol.
