Plasencia is a fenced market city located in the province of Caceres in Western Spain. Located on the bank of the Jerte River, Plasencia has a historical sector that is an effect of the strategical location of the city beside the Silver Route. The city was established in 1186. Las Catedrales is a complex of 2 cathedrals. In the Main Chapel, there is the choir by Rodrigo Aleman and an altarpiece by Gregoria Fernandez. The Museum close to the cathedral houses the artworks by Luis de Morales and Jusepe de Ribera. Sanctuary of Virgen del Puerto around 5 km from the city began in the 15th century but ended 3 centuries afterward. Other popular sights of the city are - Casa consistorial, remains of the Roman aqueduct, Palacio de los marqueses de Mirabel with a 2-order court, Church of san Esteban, and Canchos de Ramino y Landronera Protected Area.
