The Medina contains many medieval buildings, mosques and gates that are worth seeing. The ancient historical town of Carthage is also nearby and travelers can easily visit it from here. The Zitouna Mosque located here dates back to the 8th century and is the largest mosque in the country, and an important landmark. Bab Bahr or the Sea Gate, Bab Saadoun and the Cathedral of St Vincent de Paul are other major landmarks here.
