Ayr is the site of the first Parliament of Scotland, held by Robert the Bruce in 1315. Later In time, Cromwell used Ayr as a fortress and base for some of his men. The names of all provosts are entered into a town Bible. The views from Ayr are spectacular, with the Isle of Arran often visible, and in good conditions one can also see the tip of northern island.
