Brentwood is an affluent town with a rapidly expanding shopping area and High Street. It sits on the site of an old Roman road, and the ruins of the Thomas Becket Chapel make for an interesting visit. The parish church, called Pilgrim’s Hatch, also has links to Sir Thomas Becket, and was a popular stop off point for those on their way to Canterbury. A town landmark is the William Hunter Monument. There are some traditional inns and public houses to spend some time.
