Located near River Tyne, Hexham is a market town in the English county of Northumberland. There are many smaller towns and villages surrounding Hexham, including Corbridge, Riding Mill, Wylam, Acomb, Bellingham, Allendale, Bardon Mill and Haltwhistle. The large city of Newcastle is about 49 kilometres away and can be easily reached with a rental car.
The town was originally founded as a monastery. The crypt of the original monastery survives. Hexham Abbey is a tourist attraction in the town, which dominates the architecture in the town, along with the Moot Hall, the covered market, and the Old Gaol. Newcastle Airport is near the town, which also has great road and rail links. A special tourist bus operates from the tourist office to the main sites on historic Hadrian's Wall.
