Leicester Train Station serves the large city of Leicester as well as surrounding areas in the East Midlands. It is situated on the main line between London St Pancras and Sheffield / Nottingham. The lines are not electrified, so diesel trains are used. The long red brick facade is quite impressive. Outside, you can see two Egyptian style gate posts from the earlier station on the same site. Leicester was one of the earliest cities to have a railway station. There are several food and drink outlets, including one restaurant that is licensed to serve alcoholic beverages. There are shops, vending machines, ticket counters, information services, and a first class waiting lounge in addition to the regular waiting areas. The station is a conveniently central part of the city.
