Sheffield Train Station, previously known as both Pond Street and Sheffield Midland, links Sheffield and surrounding areas to other parts of the country. It is the busiest train station in South Yorkshire. There is a tram stop next to Sheffield Train Station.
The station was first opened in 1870, and has seen various developments, expansions, and refurbishments since that time. There are good facilities for passengers, including shops, places to eat, places to drink, comfortable waiting areas, vending machines, a car park, left luggage facilities, toilets and ATMs. Next to platform 1B there is an award winning pub. It opened at the end of 2009, and is called the Sheffield Tap. The station is a major gateway to the city and located close to the main tourist and business areas.
