Situated on the west coast of Florida, Tampa sits on Tampa Bay, near the Gulf of Mexico. It was once inhabited by different indigenous people, including the Pohoy and the Tocobaga. It is a great outdoor city. The word Tampa is believed to mean sticks of fire in a tribal language. An important historical commercial venture in Tampa was Ybor’s Cigars, and so Tampa’s connection with Cuban cigars led to the city being called the cigar capital of the world.
