Newport News is a city in the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Area in the State of Virginia. Located on the northern shore of the James River, Newport News has a large shipbuilding and boating industry which along with its many extensive military bases and suppliers dominate the economy of this town. The Newport News/Williamson International Airport also lies within the city limits, which is noted to have incorporated green technology in every facet of its services.
The Mariner’s Museum is one of the most popular attractions in Newport and is also one of the most comprehensive maritime museums in the world. The Virginia Living Museum highlights the state’s natural heritage and showcases many living exhibits of birds, animals and reptiles. Other attractions here include the City Center at Oyster Point, the Newport News Park, the Endview Plantation, Peninsula Fine Arts Center, the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center, and the Hilton Village.
