Roanoke is a charming city located in the valley by the same name in Virginia. Known as the 'Star City of the South’, due to the presence of the illuminated Mill Mountain Star, this city is bisected by the Roanoke River and is the largest city in a mountainous region in the country. Nowadays Roanoke has developed itself into an important cultural hub with festivals such as the Chili Cook-Off, Festival in the Park, Henry Street Festival, the Big Lick Festival and others being held regularly here.
Roanoke also has a number of attractions for travelers to visit. The Center in the Square is the city’s main cultural center and museum located in the Downtown area. The Mill Mountain Star located on the nearby Mill Mountain serves as the symbol of the city, and has been continuously illuminated since 1949. Other attractions include Hotel Roanoke and the historic City Market.
