Campo Grande is the capital city of the MatoGrosso doSul state in the central west of Brazil. It was officially founded in 1877 by two farmers and became established as a stopping point for people travelling overland between the north and south of the country. When the railway came to the area there was a relatively rapid influx of immigrants due to the location and also the climate, which is cooler and drier than many other areas on Brazil.
The city benefits from a large number of roads leading to and from the city, which have endured since the city was nothing more than a waypoint. If you wish to explore some of the routes those travellers took you can hire a car to take you on your adventures. You can do this in advance through VIP cars using a simple online booking system.
