Jaragua do Sul is a city situated in the north of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Jaragua do Sul was established on 25 July 1876. The Itapocu River is Jaragua do Sul's most significant river spanning the city, being Jaragua River and Itapocuzinho River its main confluent. Jaragua do Sul is home to the Festival de Musica de Santa Catarina which was formed by Alex Klein. This festival takes place in late January and draws students and faculty from throughout the world. The Schutzenfest is a traditional festival held yearly since 1988, celebrated in October in Jaragua do Sul. Jaragua means the king or lord of the valley – so the name means that this is the most important or prominent cities of the valley.
