Kleve is a town located in the Lower Rhine region of northwestern Germany close to the Rhine River and Dutch border. From the 11th century onwards, Kleve was capital of a county and afterwards a dukedom. Nowadays, Kleve is the capital of the Kleve district in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The mineral waters of the town and the wooded parkland adjoining it created it a stylish spa in the 19th century. The old ducal castle, Swans' Castle related with the legend of Lohengrin is currently a law court; its 2 towers date back the 1429 and 1440. Also noteworthy are the Minorite Church and the Collegiate Church. A historic bathhouse that was formerly a spa is currently a museum.
