Trapani Airport is the main facility and gateway serving western Sicily. While this is primary a military airport, it's open to civilian traffic from national and international destinations. It’s located halfway between the cities of Trapani and Masala. In addition to the regularly scheduled flights to major Italian cities, there are numerous flights which operate on a seasonal basis. The carriers that operate out of Trapani airport are discount airlines and charter flights: Ryanair, Darwin Airline and Air One. Additionally, the national carrier, Alitalia serves the airport. In 2009 renovations were undertaken to expand the airport’s terminal and facilities. The boarding gates were increased from three to eight and better amenities such as restaurants and shops were added to the existing terminal. Trapani is an interesting destination offering many opportunities within the city itself, and in the nearby towns and cities.
