Senai International Airport serves the Malaysian state of Johor, as well as other destinations on the southern peninsula. It was formerly a hub for AirAsia and Malaysian Airlines until cost-cutting measures were implemented. It is still able to handle over 4.5 million passengers per year, and there are plans to increase this number as well as to expand the airport into a major cargo hub.
Within Malaysia, flights operate between the capital of Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Miri, Sibu and Kuching on the island of Borneo, Kota Bharu in the Northeast, and Penang in Northern Malaysia. Internationally, there are flights to and from Jakarta and Medan, with a route to Surabaya to be implemented in June 2013. The airport has restaurants and shops for travellers’ convenience, and a rental car can be collected direct from Senai International Airport by booking online in advance through VIP Cars.
