Serbia car rental laws

Majority of car rental companies in Serbia ask for a credit card as the preferred means of payment. There are some suppliers which allow the use of debit cards and cash, but this is permitted only at selected locations. All major credit cards are accepted.
A valid and full driver’s license is mandatory, which has been held for at least a year. Kindly note that only original driver’s license is accepted; temporary driver’s license or Xerox or digital copies of the driving license are not accepted.
Possession of an international driver’s license is not a mandatory condition but do bring it along if your DL is not in the Roman alphabet. And if your country of residence doesn't issue IDPs, bring the official translation of your license.

Driving rules in Serbia

In Serbia, motorists drive on the right-hand side of the road. Dipped headlights are to be used at all times, and trams are to be given the right of way, always!
Using mobile while driving is punishable under the law unless you have a headset
Children below the age of 12 years must be seated in the back seats in proper restraint systems; baby or child seats can be rented at the time of the booking.
Majority of gas stations remains open between 8 am and 6 pm, & they remain closed on weekends. So time your car's refueling accordingly, however, if you are in a bigger city like Novi Sad, the gas stations along the motorways remains open on weekends.
There are toll roads in Serbia on almost every motorway. Have a word with the car rental company about how to pay for the toll. If the supplier says it is your responsibility, carry cash in Euros or local currency.
Finding parking is not difficult. The finest example is its capital city Belgrade where people can park at various locations. Red parking zone means you can park for 1 hour, yellow parking space means it is a 2 hr parking while green means a 3 hr parking. For longer durations you can use public parking lots.
