How much does it cost to rent a car in Uruguay?
Wondering about what it might cost to rent a car in Uruguay? The cost totally depends on the type of car you are booking; while economy, standard and mini cars are usually the cheapest cars, luxury, convertibles and minivans are relatively more expensive. Various factors can add to your rental car costs, like if you are under 25 it is possible that you will have to pay a young driver surcharge, and if you are renting at the last moment, you will be charged more as the company have to provide the service at short notice. Other things can’t be controlled, but at least you can pre-book the car; rent at least 3 months in advance to get hold of the cheapest deal.
Note that the cars shown at the time of booking are for guidance purpose, no car rental company guarantee the same model. They only guarantee the same car-type.
Uruguay car rental requirements
To rent a car in Uruguay, you will need to fulfill the following requirements:
For different car companies, the age eligibility conditions vary from time to time and many of them even quote different age eligibility conditions for different car-types. Hence we advise you read the terms & conditions attached to the deal before placing the booking. Many suppliers charge a 'young driver surcharge’ from the drivers who are under 25 years.
Most of the car rental suppliers ask for a credit card for payments at the time of pick up, and if you don’t have one, the company will refuse you the rental vehicle. In case you are using someone else’s credit card, get yourself added as the additional driver if you want to drive as the rental car will be booked in the name of the card holder’s name.
Our partners only allow those drivers to rent cars who have a valid and full driver’s license, and have the original document; digital copies or the Xerox copies are not entertained. Whether you are a resident of Canada, US, UK, Australia or Croatia, in Uruguay you can use your native driver’s license.
Though an International driver’s permit is not essential to drive in Uruguay, it might be needed if the supplier asks for it, so if it is mentioned on the rental voucher and rental agreement, do bring it along. If your DL is not in Roman alphabet, we advise that you bring along either IDP or the official translation of your DL.
