Kingaroy originates from an aboriginal word, 'wakka wakka’, which means red ant. Kingaroy is South Burnett’s largest town and also the commercial centre of the region. Though the look and feel of the town is cosmopolitan in nature, Kingaroy still offers a friendly, informal and relaxed country like ambience. North east of Kingaroy has the Booie Range, whereas, the Bunya Mountains are located south west and 55 km away from the town. Kingaroy has an existence of social, cultural and sporting life that is vibrant and it is also home to art galleries. There are 2 lookouts that offer a panoramic view of Kingaroy, one is close to Apex Park and the other is at Mt Woorolin. Premier annual events are held every year in the town, amongst the events is the Burrandowan Picnic Races, Wine and Food in the Park Festival, Kingaroy Peanut Festival, Christmas Carnival and Taabinga Spring Music Festival.
