About Chartres

Chartres is a commune and capital of the Eure-et-department in northern France. The main attraction for most visitors to Chartres is the 12th century cathedral conceived by several art historians to be the best surviving example from the High Gothic period. The abbey church of St. Pierre dating mainly from the 13th century encompasses besides some fine stained glass, 12 illustrations of the apostles in enamel made around 1547 by Leonard Limosin. Chartres has number of shops selling religious items.
