Giardini Di Naxos was established by Thucles the Chalcidiani in the 8th Century BC. Unlike many early towns, it was never a powerful town. However, as home to a temple to Athena, the patron goddess of the Greek Colonies, Giardini di Naxos had a certain amount of religious prestige and importance. The cities of Catatonia and Leontini were established by colonists from Giardini di Naxos. Before the 1970s, this small commune was a quiet fishing village. However, it has become a well-known seaside resort town, with renowned beaches, panoramic views of the bay and the fishing port which is small but active.
