Celano is a commune and a town located in the Province of L'Aquila, central Italy around 120 km east of Rome by train. The city develops on the crest of a hill in the region of Marsica underneath the mountain range of Sirente. Later on the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the city suffered from the intrusions of Lombards. The square Piccolomini Castle with circular towers at the corners was set up in its current form on the crest of the San Vittorino Hill. Its structure was accredited by Count Pietro Berardi around the year 1392 and was completed around 1451. Nowadays, the castle hosts the Museum of Sacred Art of Marsica. The attractive castle is well identifiable driving on the highways A25 Rome - Pescara. The city is home to 3 churches with 13th century facades in the style of L'Aquila.
