Car rental guide for Beirut

Rental tips

  • The best way to start your trip is by booking a car rental at the airport itself, at Beirut Airport, you can find car rental desks on the first level of the arrival area on the one and only terminal.
  • 18 is the legal age to drive in Lebanon while 23 years is the legal age for renting a car in Lebanon, provided that the renter has been holding his driving license for at least a year.
  • Ditch the slow and crowded buses for an independent car rental which you can also drive to the scenic mountains or towards the Mediterranean coast. Depending upon the terms of the supplier, you can also go for a cross-border car rental from Beirut.

Driving in Beirut

  • In Lebanon, you drive on the right-hand side of the road and can blow the horn for passing, it won’t be considered as rude. Try to stick to the prescribed speed limits i.e. 50 km/h in the city and 100 km/h on the highway.

  • Try driving during the day as a few of the roads won’t be well-lit in the night. Use a GPS to navigate otherwise the routes can be confusing.

  • By all means, avoid rush hours and weekends if you do not want to get stuck in heavy traffic, 4PM to 6PM is the worst time to drive in Beirut.

  • Always wear seat-belt and avoid using cell phone unless on hands-free mode. Carry your driving license along with the rental and insurance papers while driving the rental car.
