Tsumeb is a city located in northern Namibia and was built around the copper mining industry. The name of the town is unusual as it was founded in 1905 by German colonial explorers. It is believed that it comes from a local language, Nama, and is related to either moss or frogs, which may have been related to the large green hill of oxidised copper ore that used to dominate the landscape.Within the town there are various museums and markets that you can visit to learn about the history of this mining town. If you are interested in seeing some of the more interesting sites you will have to head out of town and the best way of doing this is in a car rental. There are a number of mineral mines that you can visit along with spectacular sinkholes.
