Novo Mesto is a city that has been built on the picturesque bend of the Krka River. The city lies in the south east of Slovenia and is not far from the border with Croatia. The town dates back to Prehistoric times and has been given the nickname of 'City of Situlas’ due to the number of bronze pails that have been found in and around the city.
The Prehistoric roots of the city have not stopped it being called 'New Town’ since it was officially founded in 1365. If you hire a car through VIP cars you can drive around this pretty town and appreciate the beautiful white-walled buildings and their striking red tile roofs.
You can also take part in one of the Heritage Trail projects, which will take you on a tour that encompasses both natural and cultural features of the region including castles, town squares and medieval monasteries.
