Located about 95 miles northeast of Obiharo and 203 miles northeast of Otaru, Kitami is a major commercial hub of Okhotsk Subprefecture. The city is also popular among tourists for its grand festivals such as, Kitami Winter Festival, Kitami Bonchi Festival, and Kitami Chrysanthemum Festival, organized in the month of February, July, and October respectively. While a trip to the city during any of the events is always a welcoming experience, you can always visit Kitami anytime during the year as there are plenty of other attractions such as, Southhill Forest Park, Pierson Memorial Museum, Takinoyu Spa, and Wakka Nature Center.
