Guimarães is a city in the Braga district of the former Minho Province in Portugal. This city is considered to be the 'birthplace of Portuguese nationality' due to it being the administrative seat of Henry, Count of Portugal, and the birthplace of Alphonso I, the first King of Portugal. Its medieval town center is a designated World Heritage Site making it one of Portugal's most visited tourist locations.

Guimarães Castle is the most important building here and was built in the 10th century to defend Moorish attacks, while later on becoming a Royal residence. Palace of the Dukes of Bragança is another important landmark here built in the 15th century in the historic town center. The Olive Square and the Toural Square are the main squares in the city. One can also take an elevator to Penha Mountain and enjoy great views of the city.
