Nikolaev Oblast, also known as Mykolayivschyna, is a Ukrainian province. Mykolayiv city serves as the administrative centre of Mykolayiv Province. Located in southern Ukraine, Nikolaev is spread across 24,600 sq km, with its borders touching Kirovohard Oblast in north and the Kherson Oblast in south. The province is home to number of important sites of historic relevance including, Olbia and Dykyysad. While is a large open garden, Pontic Olbia is an old Greek settlement, dating back to the 7th century. A prominent harbor on the Black Sea, Nikolaev played an important role in marine trade between Greece and Scythia.
