Vercelli is a town with the distinction of being the oldest inhabited centre in Northern Italy. Records travel it to around 600BC. This part of the country has interesting features due to its location on the Po River’s banks, and a unique culinary variety, different from what most people consider “Italian”. It’s a place to enjoy for a different view of what you consider to be “Italian”
The Basilica of San Andrea is the top ranked attractions in the city. It’s described and elegant and majestic, and definitely worth taking the time to see. Other religious buildings and a Cathedral Museum are similar attractions in the town. If, however, you want something unique, you should check out the rice paddy fields. The bank of the Po is a wet, marshy area, perfect for rice growing. The method is traditional and has been passed down for generations.
