Messina is a large city and filled with interesting attractions. It has the cultural highlights expected of Italy: food, history and so forth, but also less common attractions such as an astronomical clock, a lighthouse and two pylons, one on each side of the Messina Straight. The bell town in Messina is on par with its famous cousins in Germany and Prague. Each noon, a parade of characters waltzes out from the clock. The Messina Duomo and Sanctuary of Madonna di Montalto are highly recommended religious buildings to see in Messina.
