The earliest settlement of the region was by a prehistoric people, the Culture of Remedello, between the nineteen and twenty-first centuries BC. Other than Rome, Legnano is the only city mentioned in the Italian National Anthem. It merits this honor due to the importance of the Battle of Legnano in the history of Italy.
