This is a sign of gratitude towards the animal which has played a major role during the development of this town in the nineteenth century. The area is the only industrialized area near the Augrabies Falls. Due to the rich flood plains of the Orange River, grapes are cultivated. Fine quality wine is made from the Orange River Wine Cellars which is in turn exported to Europe and the USA.
