The downtown area of Rio Gallegos sits at the centre of the small town in the south of Argentina. It is a good base from which to explore the surrounding areas.
The town is well connected by air and by road. Some local places of interest include Museo de Arte "Eduardo Minnicelli" and the Pioneer Museum. The latter is the city’s oldest house. You can visit the penguin reserve, which is about 2 hours south of the town. The growing glacier of Perito Moreno, the only such one in the whole world, is easy to access from the town.
