Bauru is a city in the São Paulo state in the south east of Brazil. The city has a strong educational reputation and is home to a number of universities. The city is built around a junction of three different railways, making this an important transport hub within São Paulo.
There is no single theory to explain the origin of the name of the city, but some possibilities are that it was named in the language of the Kaingang tribe, or perhaps from the term 'bauruz’, the name of the natives who once inhabited the banks of the Batalha River.
Bauru not only has great rail links, it also has a number of major roads running into it, including the SP-225, which will take you to São Paulo. Therefore it is a great place to hire a car, which you can do through VIP cars for great prices.
