The airport currently serving Canoas and also the rest of Porto Alegre is the Salgado Filho International Airport. The airport is located in the São João district of Porto Alegre to the south of highway 290. It lies around 8km to the south of Canoas and around 6km to the north east of the centre of Porto Alegre.
There are a number of regular international flights to locations such as Lisbon, Panama City and Lima operated by airlines including TAP Portugal and Copa Airlines. The central location of the airport makes this the perfect place to pick up a rental car. From here you can head north or south to Canoas or Porto Alegre respectively, or you can take highway 116 across the archipelago to the west.
